When you land
The phone searches for the local network. It usually connects within a minute.
It should be selected for mobile data. Your home line can stay on for calls and SMS.
The eSIM is a local True–DTAC line, so it does not need roaming. Keep roaming off on your home SIM.
Data and incoming calls work as soon as the eSIM is on. For outgoing calls and SMS, Thailand’s NBTC rules (since May 20, 2026) ask for a quick passport check at any official True or dtac store in Thailand.
The 15 GB and 50 GB data plans have no outgoing calls or SMS, so no store visit is needed.
Troubleshooting
Check the APN is www.dtac.co, and on iPhone turn off Allow Cellular Data Switching.
Toggle airplane mode for 10 seconds, or set network selection to Automatic.
The eSIM is probably already on the phone. Turn it on in your SIM list instead of scanning again.
The phone may be carrier-locked or a model without eSIM. Check with *#06# for an EID.
Before you fly, on Wi-Fi at home or at the airport. Installing needs internet, and in the arrivals hall you may not have it yet.
No. Each QR code can be installed once. Do not delete the eSIM during the trip. If you scanned it before, look for it in your SIM list and turn it on.
No. The Thailand eSIM uses the local True–DTAC network, so data roaming is not needed for this line. Keep roaming off on your home SIM.
The APN is www.dtac.co. It is usually set automatically. Add it under the line’s mobile network settings only if data does not connect.
Yes. WhatsApp is tied to your account, not the data line. It keeps working on your usual number while the Thailand eSIM provides the data.
Use manual entry. The install code below the QR in your email has the SM-DP+ address and the activation code. Enter them as shown in the manual install section.
Only if you want outgoing calls and SMS. Data and incoming calls work right after activation. Under Thailand’s NBTC rules, from May 20, 2026 outgoing calls and SMS on the 8, 15, and 30-day Unlimited + calls plans need a quick passport check at an official True or dtac store in Thailand.
Outgoing calls and SMS turn on after a quick passport check at a True or dtac store in Thailand, as required by the NBTC since May 20, 2026. Your internet and incoming calls already work, and WhatsApp or LINE calls work over data without the check.

Your QR arrives by email after payment, so you can install it before you pack.
