Quick answer
Before flying to Thailand, submit the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online for free within the three days before arrival, install your eSIM on Wi-Fi, and download Grab or Bolt and offline maps. Then, when you land, you only need to switch the eSIM on for data.
Do I need the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)?
Yes. Since 1 May 2025 the TDAC has replaced the paper TM6 card. All non-Thai nationals entering by air, land, or sea must submit it, and children need their own card. You can submit it within the three days before arrival, including the day you arrive.
The TDAC is free on the official site, tdac.immigration.go.th. Sites that charge a fee are not the Thai government. The TDAC is not a visa, so check your visa or visa-exemption status separately.
What should I do with the eSIM before the flight?
- 1Check the phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked.
- 2Buy the plan and wait for the QR email.
- 3Install it on Wi-Fi the day before you fly and label it Thailand.
- 4Leave mobile data on your home line until you land, or turn data off completely on the plane.
Which apps are useful in Thailand?
- Grab and Bolt for rides and food delivery.
- Google Maps, with offline maps downloaded for places you will visit.
- LINE, which many Thai hotels and businesses use for messaging.
- Your airline app, for domestic flights and boarding passes.
